SyncITSetup.exe
(Released April 28, 2008)
Build 10.5
This version requires the .NET Framework version 2.0 (Download)
The .NET framework is likely already installed on your computer. If not, you can obtain the installation package from Microsoft using the links above.
New Features , Enhancements
-
Added automatic bookmark backup feature that makes an archival copy of your bookmarks each time the computer is rebooted and stores it in the program files/bookmarksync/Backups directory
-
Moved much of the error reporting out of the runtime version of the client thereby eliminating much of the error loggin being written to the event log unless you are running a debug version of the client.
-
Added server select code to automatically detect where your user account is located. (Sync2it.com or BookmarkSync.com) and configure the client to synchronize with that server. If an account exists on both servers, the default registry setting is used which will usually be set to the server where the client was downloaded.
-
Added some additional logic to verify that a properly formed conversation has occurred with the server and to retry if necessary. This should eliminate some lost bookmarks due to network congestion or high server loading.
-
Added a 60 delay during startup to allow the boot-up process to substantially finish before updating bookmarks.
- Added code to trap zero bookmarks from ever being written locally. Some errors are allowing bookmarksets to be set to zero and this code should eliminate that.
- Added some display asthetic changes.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug causing the popup menu to display only dots if the root folder contained thousands of bookmarks with no sub folders.
- Reduced the number of events filling the event log and completly stopped writing to the event log if "All this client to report errors to BookmarkSync" is unchecked.
Known Issues
- Still working on the incompatible character detection and translation code in the search tree.

What features would you like to see added?
Please help me with your suggestions.
Would a highly encrypted, secure password synchronization service be of interest? Share up-to-date, strong credentials between your various computers utilizing a physically isolated, private-key encryption scheme.
Should File Synchronization be the next priority?
- A file selection popup that allows a user to select individual files or whole directories to be synchronized.
- The selected files would then be highly encrypted and transferred via rsync technology to the server where they would be synchronized with the users other computers in the same file locations and unencrypted.
- This would function like a file 'checkout' system where the server would be aware of open files and not allow multiple editors to overwrite other's changes. Details need to be worked out, ideas requested.
